This course is designed to enhance the ability to provide compassionate care for adults with mental health challenges in long-term care settings. Learners will gain expertise in recognizing mental health conditions, applying trauma-informed care, and de-escalating challenging behaviors. In addition, learners will engage in prioritizing resident well-being and employing effective communication strategies to foster positive relationships while emphasizing self-care to prevent burnout.

 

 

 

 

What To Expect

This course is fully online, self-paced, and can be completed entirely on your phone. It contains the following eight modules and you have the opportunity to retake assessments until you master your skills.

  • Module 1: Introduction to Mental Illness & SMI
  • Module 2: Battling Stigma
  • Module 3: Empathic Listening
  • Module 4: What is Trauma?
  • Module 5: Managing Challenging Behaviors: Crisis Prevention & De-escalation
  • Module 6: What is Person-Centered Care?
  • Module 7: Self Care of the CNA
  • Module 8: Wrap-Up

You can expect to spend anywhere from 8-12 hours completing the entire course. Upon successful completion (80% on assessments), you will receive an award certificate indicating your specialty and a digital badge that is independently verifiable through Credly to share on social media.

 

This course does not fall under the scope of Bryan University’s accreditation with the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.
